All Growed Up

Three years ago, when Darrell and I got engaged, I didn't really feel all that grown up. Six months later, when we bought a house, I sort of felt a little more grown up (but I kind of also just felt like a kid playing house). Six months after that when we got married I still didn't feel all that grown up; I'd had friends that married way younger so it didn't seem like that big of a deal. When my sister bought a house at the beginning of 2011, I was mostly relieved that she was starting to catch up to me (now if she would just get engaged!). But when my slightly younger baby brother bought a house two weeks ago... Man, did that make me feel old. It's just weird to think that my little brother is (mostly) grown-up and responsible enough--with a pretty legitimate full-time job--to be a homeowner.

The house! Ignore the snow and trucks and poor quality; I had to steal this off of Google maps because it was too dark when I was there to get a good picture
Naturally, this event called for a gathering of the family under the guise of helping him move in. In reality it was much more of a test of the ability of his house to hold a comfortable house party since we ended up having a little Cinco de Mayo celebration (and didn't actually move a single box or piece of furniture).

It started innocently enough with a celebratory dinner at a nice restaurant downtown...

But then the tequila came out once we got to his house and my mom and I foolishly decided to take a shot.

And then, well, we just started getting a little goofy.

And some people got sleepy.

But hey, his house passed the test with flying colors! Plenty of seating, comfortable couches, and enough food and drinks to keep everyone happy! And yes--I totally realize that I don't actually have a picture of my brother (or his girlfriend, for that matter), despite the fact that we were celebrating his new house. I really need to get better at taking pictures. But to be fair, my brother does tend to shy away from photos, so it's not likely he would have posed for me in the front of the house or something anyway.

We rounded out our weekend with some soccer (for Darrell), a shopping event in downtown (for me), and plenty of lounging around watching How I Met Your Mother. Actual amount of productivity this weekend? Slim to none. Definitely going to have to make that up this week.

Happy Monday!
