The Art of Racing in the Rain
I've discovered that when I have e-books on my computer I just fly through them. First there was The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, and a few weeks later I stumbled across this gem in our e-reader library--and promptly finished it a few days later. And I'm starting to notice a trend with the books that I give glowing reviews to--they are books that have really strong, really distinct, narrator voices. This book was no different. What made it even better? The narrator's voice was that of a dog! I seriously loved it. It had great, captivating story elements--love, sickness, custody drama, and other issues--and it was all told from the perspective of the (very intelligent) family dog. I couldn't get enough of it. I did get a little bit lost at times in some of the "race" lingo (the main human character is a borderline-obsessed race car driver), but the whole analogy tied very well throughout the book, and I actually found myself enjoying it at times (despite the fact that I absolutely CANNOT watch races on TV). Oh, and I absolutely did not like the in-laws of the main human character; they were awful. They epitomize the reasons why in-laws get bad reps. Makes me so grateful that I have in-laws who are seriously just like a second family.
The only thing I don't like about the e-books is that I can't share them as well; I love doing book swaps with Darrell's mom and sisters, and e-books don't exactly "swap" well. But hopefully I'll put a bug in their ears so if they see this book they'll pick it up (and you should too!)

Do you read it on your computer or do you have a Kindle or Nook?
ReplyDeleteAlso, you should pick up State of Wonder by Ann Patchett. I think you'd really like it.
I read on my computer; I have a MacBook through work that has e-reader software on it. But I'm starting to think I might actually enjoy a Kindle or Nook even though I was initially very against them
