Photo Every Hour: October 21st

Apparently when I don't have a monthly update to write, I forget about blogging my photo an hour posts! Whoops!

Someone has developed a not-so-enjoyable habit of waking up between four and five every day and not wanting to go back to sleep. I'm pretty sure it's teething related, but I'm done with it nonetheless

This probably isn't sleeping in by most people's standards, but I'll gladly take it!

8:00 Getting prepped for a busy day of being out of the house

9:00 Quick stop at Hy-Vee on the way to church so Darrell can pick up some doughnuts for New Member Orientation

10:00 Picking up the boys from Sunday School. They aren't normally in the same class, but their teachers had meetings this morning so they combined the classes (which the boys thought was super cool)

11:00 The church wasn't actually this empty during the service, but I snagged this picture ahead of time so I didn't have to pull my phone out during church

12:00 To Grandmother's house we go!

1:00 Watching the game with the whole fan damily!

2:00 Still watching the game... And still in the same spot of the couch. This pretty much never happens for me because I'm usually up moving around helping my mom wrangle the boys, but William wasn't feeling very good so I was gladly giving him extra cuddles

3:00 It isn't quite time for victory formation yet--but SKOL Vikings!

4:00 Well. Not exactly where I had planned for us to be this afternoon, but with William running a fever we aren't about to keep our plans of going to the bike trails and a playground (even if it is insanely gorgeous outside)

5:00 Spending some time outside with the only kid who isn't running a fever (we're pretty sure Connor's is strictly teething related, but still enough to be a nuisance)

6:00 Post-dinner (for four at least; William hung out on the couch during dinner)

7:00 Teething pain and a short nap at Grandma's makes for an early bedtime for this boy!

8:00 When one kid is sick, one is teething, and the other skipped a nap during the football game, everyone is asleep by eight. So I guess I clean our room?!?

9:00 Getting some reading done for our new book club at church while keeping an eye on William (sleeping on the couch)

Whelp, I guess if everyone else is going to bed early then I might as well follow suit! Probably the earliest I've been to bed in months, if not years

Photo Every Hour: September 24th

As fun as my photo every hour in Chicago was, I didn't want to miss documenting what every hour of our life looked like the first month William was in school(!!) and the month Connor turned one(!!!!). So here's a special double-feature for September!

Happy morning! Rising and shining happens a little earlier these days now that I have to get William to school on time

7:00 At least one kid is happy that Mommy is home from vacation!

8:00 And just like that, William is off to school for the day

9:00 Unpacking is probably the worst part of vacation

10:00 Play time at open gym (because after four days of being out and about in Chicago staying home all day seemed a little bit like torture)

11:00 Heading home with some not-so-happy boys

12:00 Nap time! (PS Someone--or maybe two someones--missed this while Mommy was in Chicago)

1:00 Trying (mostly unsuccessfully) to get caught up on budgeting and other household stuff

2:00 Hitting the ground running trying to prepare for family pictures tomorrow

3:00 Look who's home!

4:00 Checking out a few last minute options for family picture options (I won't admit to how many times I changed my mind or how many different shirts I bought and returned)

5:00 Turns out the laundry doesn't do itself while I'm on vacation. Go figure

6:00 Yay for family dinners (or at least the aftermath thereof)

7:00 Snack time!

8:00 I spy two little cuties brushing their teeth!

9:00 Trying (very belatedly) to get Connor's one-year blog post written

11:00 (and 10:00) I forgot to take the picture at 10:00, but just imagine this bed almost completely covered with laundry that needed to be put away

Yay bedtime! (Not nearly early enough, but that's life)

Photo Every Hour: September 21st

Welcome to a special Chicago edition of Photo Every Hour! The 21st of September happened to fall while I was in Chicago hanging out with two of my close friends (we've known each other since high school--or earlier!), so it was a fun excuse to make sure I remember to document (at least one day of!) our trip

So Darrell would argue that "technically" it isn't the 21st yet since I haven't gone to bed to end the 20th (#vacationlife), but my phone says otherwise so I snagged this screenshot on my way to bed

In bed after midnight and I still got almost eight hours of sleep?!? Life. Is. Good

9:00 Our breakfast spread that we picked up at the grocery store near our AirBnB

10:00 I got away from the kids, but couldn't quite get away from all of my mom life #nursingmomproblems

11:00 Enjoying a mid-morning walk along Lake Michigan

12:00 Confession--public transportation kind of scares me. I am always so worried that I'm going to get on the wrong train or end up in the wrong spot or something similar. Thankfully my friends (one of whom lives in London and doesn't even own a vehicle!) are public transportation experts

1:00 Checking out the shops in the Wicker Park neighborhood after lunch

2:00 So my friend from London is obsessed with cramming as much stuff as possible into every vacation. And even though she lived in Chicago for short while after college (and got married there!), she still wanted to spend some time playing tourist. Which led to her booking us on a (free!) walking tour of Michigan Avenue and Millennium Park

3:00 Does this picture even need a caption (other than can you find me in "The Bean" somewhere?)

4:00 Wrapping up our walking tour and heading toward the next item on our itinerary....

5:00 A (super crowded with crazy expensive drinks) rooftop bar! (But hey, the view was great. Once you could actually make your way to the edge, that is)

6:00 When your friend from London wants to visit Target (to pick up beef jerky and graham crackers for her husband!) you gladly oblige

7:00 Mom life round two (cue eye roll--but at least it's better than being engorged and uncomfortable all weekend!)

8:00 At the theater for some comedy!

9:00 #Shethepeople

10:00 Yes, that's a dinner menu. Yes, it's 10:00 at night. Apparently this isn't terribly unusual (at least in the European crowd of people who don't have kids--which clearly I am not)

11:00 Ugh. Super late dinner and Friday night bar scene. I need a blinking light over my head that says "Does Not Belong"

12:00 Finally. Back at our AirBnB and lounging around. This is definitely more my style #homebody

And almost exactly twenty four hours later--bedtime again!

Connor: One Year!

Poof! And just like that, Connor is One!

Height/Weight: I think I predicted a month or two ago that he seemed to be hitting a plateau on his growth, and it seems I was right. His weight at a year was 20 lbs 5 oz (a little lighter than I had predicted, but still half a pound heavier than his brothers) and his height was 28 inches (roughly an inch shorter than his brothers). His height actually took a dip on his growth curve, not just a leveling out, and while our pediatrician will be concerned by that if the trend continues at fifteen months, right now he's just guessing it was a slightly inaccurate measurement or he is having a slightly delayed one-year growth spurt (which--given the way he's eaten in the week since his birthday--wouldn't be surprising in the least)

Wearing: Twelve month clothing and size four diapers--same as the last two months. I'd complain about being bored with his wardrobe options, but I'm actually kind of glad he hasn't grown out of the twelve month clothing just yet--I have lots of cool weather 12-month clothing that was passed down from the older two that now I'll get a chance to put Connor into as well!

Eating: He has gotten very aware of when/what other people are eating, and he'll more than voice his disapproval if you don't share. Now that he is a year, the honey restriction has been lifted, which was pretty much the only thing limiting his food--unless it had honey in it, he ate absolutely anything and everything we did. I'm still nursing three times a day (although pretty much solely by choice) and we've completely eliminated all nighttime feedings (hallelujah!)

Sleeping: I've officially decided this kid is a Jekyll and Hyde sleeper--it's either really, really good or absolutely terrible. Cutting the nighttime feeding initially went really well, and he started sleeping through the night almost immediately. Then, about ten days before his birthday, he got sick. First it was a fever (which actually didn't keep him up too much, although he was slightly more restless), and then it was a knock-down drag-out cold. It got so bad that for three or four nights the only way he could sleep (as well as breathe) was if one of us was sleeping in the recliner with him so he could be elevated. We seem to be back on an upward swing, though, so fingers crossed that sticks! He also pretty exclusively just takes one nap. With needing to pick William up at 2:45 I try to leave the house by 2:30, which means Connor needs to go down for his nap around noon (mind you, he doesn't always sleep the full 2.5 hours, but when he does, it's glorious). That doesn't really leave room for a morning nap, and usually he's fine without it, although sometimes if we are out of the house he'll catch a quick catnap in the car.

New Stuff: Connor is officially a stair master! He has been able to go up for a few months now, but just recently he figured out how to (safely!) crawl down. Sometimes he still needs help positioning himself correctly before maneuvering downward, but once he gets going he can go pretty quick. And speaking of being quick--Connor can be a serious speed demon when he crawls. We're pretty sure this is why he hasn't started walking yet; to him, crawling probably seems like a much faster (and safer!) endeavor. He has just recently started to cruise around furniture, though, and I'm sure once he realizes how quickly he can move on two feet that he'll be running in no time. He is getting really interactive (he loves to high five, he can throw up a mean "touchdown" signal, and he cuddles with/hugs stuffed animals whenever he is near one) and just plain fun to be around (most of the time--teething is still a brute, although the fifth one did come in and we seem to be hitting a little bit of a break from the worst of the pain, so that's been nice). I feel like he is going to be a completely different kid (ah! kid! not baby!) by the time I check back in at fifteen months--and I can hardly wait.
